In SQL, because VARCHAR is short for "variable character" it should be pronounced "vair-care". This is a hill I will die on.

Var CHar, no one says CAR, or “Care” Why add an i in the middle of Var? Surely VariChar had some potential.

The purpose of language is to communicate information, so if people understand what you are saying, then it's serving its purpose. On the other hand, if you call it a "vair care" in a meeting with other engineers and everyone looks confused, I think that is meaningful feedback!
