So cats have really been doing what the hell they like for centuries

So…were the tiles not fired before they were laid or did the tile layer just not care that a cat walked on the clay first, went ahead and fired it and placed it on the floor anyway? I’m trying to figure out how this could happen. 🤔 or were they put down like wet cement?
