Does anybody know the origin of this odd "trend" of people using
WEARY
[a word that means tired / worn out]
in place of
WARY
[a word that means cautious / afraid]
??
• Eg. "He felt weary about proceeding, because the stranger seemed to have ulterior motives"
He felt tired about proceeding?? I first began noticing it maybe 8ish years ago. I've seen it in print, heard it in person and on podcasts. What gives?
