I forgot to mention that I've been celebrating Kwanzaa since 1996 (my second year in the Marines). Kwanzaa is a Pan African celebration. If you attend Kwanzaa events organized in the community, besides Kiswahili, you might hear Twi or Wolof or Mandinka or Lingala or Zulu. This event featured a drummer for Burkina Faso and vocalist/musician from Senegal.
