On the pay side, we get other musicians denigrating us for taking the small pay on offer, which often barely covers travel let alone instrument expenses (a set of strings for one of my bass guitars is £70 and double bass is £250), whilst societies are struggling to function and pit bands are being squeezed, against right holders wishes, to cut instrumentation.
