This feels very patronizing but I really needed this pointed out to me and if you're someone who is also stressed or and confused by this question, I hope this helps. #adviceforwomen #neurodivergent #socialanxiety #todayilearned

OK, but I have literally had a concerning amount of people be like "No, what is your FAVORITE! Like, the one exact thing that you would choose if there was nothing left, the world was ending, etc." And would get viscerally annoyed or angry that I couldn't answer and be extra weird about it. THAT'S why I hate that question and it gives me anxiety 🙃

I saw a reel yesterday that said: small talk is just like birds chirping at each other trying to get to know one another better.

I loved this post. And you are right. I never had favorites, and also thought of myself as being weird for it. But I also started to give me permission to pinpoint what I like, as I matured and realized this was about me, and release myself from the pressure of finding something in common with another person. This used to be a question with lots of layers and responsibilities. But now, it is not.

I usually take questions like that as an opportunity to let people know that making choices is not my forte. I can’t pick a fave. I can give you a top five maybe? Usually more like ten. And it’s heavily dependent on mood. So, if you ask me for a fave, you’re gonna find all that out. Sorry, not sorry. (I’m neurodivergent. So.)

Whaaaat? I’ve felt the same way my entire life!🤯 I’m almost 43, just heard this (from you) and I’m so much aboard with your feeling of relief.

Such an interesting perspective! I’m not autistic but my son is and I’m happy to learn how the neurodivergent population perceives things the allistic majority see as common experience 💙
