People blaming Apple for the lack of new CarPlay vehicles by the end of 2024 on Apple is a take I don’t think smart people would be making. But here we are.

Car manufacturers want desperately to move to a subscription model for access to features in cars - see BMW and seat heaters for example. Giving CarPlay access to those features threatens ceding control of the subscription model to Apple and I reckon that’s where the hesitation over CarPlay 2, or the complete ditching of CarPlay / AA (Tesla, Rivian, GM) comes from.
