When I visit a new city and know nothing about it, my rule of thumb for first place to visit is the gayborhood, that is the LGBTQ+ center of town. It’s usually somewhere with rich historical character that’s been revitalised tactfully and tastefully, has lots of diversity, is full of friendly, welcoming and charming locals, features excellent restaurants and bars, and displays next to zero Trump flags. I’m seldom disappointed. This was true of D.C., Philly, Seattle and even Phoenix.
