I was surprised when I got back to Japan after covid and noticed that many places that did not take international credit cards had started to do so. I was used at needing cash for konbinis and for gas stations, and now I can do everything with my Revolut Mastercard. many 7/11 will even let me get money from the ATM without commission. but recharging ic cards for transport is still a pain in the ass - still cash only unfortunately :(
