Social media is slowly eliminating “celebrity culture”. Famous people were much more appealing when we didn’t have access to their personal lives. BlackThreads

Totally agree. There was a time when celebrities felt almost mythical because we only saw glimpses of their lives through carefully curated interviews or events. Now, with constant social media updates and oversharing, it feels like that sense of mystique is fading. The more we know, the less intriguing they seem.

I was just talking about this while watching Super / Man. The home movies made me remember how much access we did NOT use to have to celebrities.

During Covid I realized how much celebrities were just like us . I miss when we didn’t know so much because it takes away from their craft . It’s so many celebs now that I have no idea if anything other than drama is going on with them so if they drop music or anything whatever the drama was is overshadows that.

Good we have to stop wanting to look rich too. The thirst for fame and luxury is hindering us all especially the black community. We've become engulfed in American Capitalism and pandered to only to sell products to but never to elevate our communities and businesses. Buy black circulate our money back into our schools and communities.

this is so true. i stopped following “celebrities” for the most part in 2024, especially the younger ones… way too messy, petty, pretentious.

My thoughts: social media made anyone able to be famous so the value of fame diminished. Also people didn’t aspire to be celebrities or famous, they were singers or athletes that became famous and then labeled ‘celebrities’ but now people want to be celebrities to be celebrities, famous to be famous. Also you knew nothing about celebrities except their work or interviews on TV, radio or magazines. So seeing one like Michael Jackson was like a once in a lifetime opportunity.
