I saw somewhere that some English speakers are not happy about the Japanese can’t speak English. Or, some hospitality workers are tired of some Chinese tourists talking to them in Chinese in the first place. Those attitudes can be understandably self-centred and obnoxious. You are in a land where people don’t speak English or Chinese at all, and expecting them to be fluent in the language or even getting mad at them for not speaking it doesn’t make any sense at all, it is pure ignorance.
