I've lived in NC for 30 years. I hear locals call it Raleigh-Durham every day.

That's bc it's the airport name right and most outsiders fly in. There. Mystery solved as to why.

Right. You can’t live in Raleigh-Durham, because that is an airport. If you live in Brier Creek, say that.

We call it the Triangle. We only say Raleigh-Durham when we go to the airport. We call Chapel Hill UNC

I’m in Carrboro, and my daughter used to think Raleigh was so far away you needed a plane to get there (but we could do Life and Science every weekend).

Disagree. When talking to people from out of town I’ve said “I’m from the Raleigh-Durham area” plenty of times. I grew up in NC and lived in Durham for almost 20 years. I’m 41.
