College is for everyone. It’s an opportunity for professional development, developing interpersonal skills, independent living, goal setting and achievement, exploring interests and talents, building resilience and personal investment in being a well rounded human. Even if you don’t get a career in your degree. Learning concepts of a career field isn’t the only reason for college.

Exactly. If your kid has decided on their own that college isn’t for them and that they can’t bear another four years of academia, learning a trade beats the hell out of working dead-end retail and hospitality jobs for the next decade or two. But it blows my mind that someone would actively discourage a kid who wants to go to college, instead of maybe just cautioning them to go somewhere they can afford (or take measure to afford it like getting a job with tuition reimbursement or the like).
