Watched the documentary on this prank cult started by Texas smart asses obsessed with Beefheart and comic books and mostly enjoyed it. They did some consideration of how their combination of religion and prank plays in an era where conspiracies aren’t kooky fun anymore but maybe not enough. They also didn’t discuss High Weirdness by Mail, their guide to kook pamphlets that I think was a prediction of the internet age, as it mixed gentle kooks, oddballs selling weird tapes, and hate groups.
