Keeping it simple - One key thing to remember about the wholesale elec price is that basically all the different types of Generation are paid the same ‘clearing’ price £/MWh. This price is set for each half hour period by the ‘Marginal Plant’ (the last one needed to meet demand). So, if the last plant req’d is, say, a battery storage unit that has bid that 1/2 hour at a price of £1000/MWh then everyone else also gets paid £1000/MWh regardless of what their bid was or what their costs were.
