Whenever I used to open the car door for my ex it was expected and no appreciation was shown. When I started doing it for my current person, she gave me a laundry list of what she didn't like about it. Among those reasons was your perspective.

It is performative. So! That’s the problem with relationships these days. Everybody too stuck on their ego to put on a performance every once in a while.

I think so is anything a gentlemen does to make & leave a good impression on a woman but also I do it for my mother too, & in either case it's not me going out of my way, it's just me caring & respecting the women in my life. I'd do it even for a woman who wasn't my mom or a woman I wanted to impress. To me, it's just decency. The same as letting a woman walk on the outskirt of the street while I walk closer to traffic.

I agree Doing it all the time is weirdo shit but doing it sometimes is a MUST!! Lets her know you care, but you’re also not a cartoon character. Feels disingenuine if it’s every-single-time. Just my thoughts on it though. I personally don’t like romantic shit 24/7. It starts to feel fake, performative & boring.

Facts especially if it’s not your girl, just feels like you putting on a show.
