Do you think when elderly people reach a certain age they should have to retest for their license? I wouldn’t say the written part but definitely the driving aspect.

Yes. I voluntarily quit driving. I am 74 and realized my reflexes are ok for just getting around but not for driving. Some people refuse to understand that they may feel ok but can't react quick enough for driving.

I assume I’m in the age group you’re talking about so let’s make a deal. You and me take a written and driving test. I bet I do better than you.

Everybody should have to retest the written part every time because laws change. Should be open book with questions auto-generated based on changes since the last time they took the test, and the only acceptable score is a perfect score.

I’m not sure of your location as rules vary globally. But I’m in the UK, I don’t agree with retesting older drivers as the system can’t cope with just new drivers. But I do think car drivers should have medicals just as HGV, PSV & taxi drivers have to take.

I will take the test as soon as the younger group takes the phone out of their face when they drive LOL.

An informative five yearly check up after 65? Yes. Hampshire (UK) do a cheap (£45) over 65 driving assessment. It was much cheaper than the Disability driving test (£300+) and got me DVLA approval to continue driving with a duff arm. It was like the speed awareness course I did - I learnt loads - and the hints about positioning my seat probably saved me from a more serious injury when someone totalled my car later in the year.

Read the stat's carefully, seniors are over represented in road deaths but as passengers because they are more fragile. As drivers they are no worse than any other age group.

Just because the majority of accidents involve young men is no reason not to make sure that seniors are safe to drive.
