I have a habit of shoving as many stitches as possible on a needle. I've done a 38" sweater on a 16" needle before. It's squished and you can't see the shape very well, but it's absolutely possible. I'd say give it a go if you've got a needle and worst case scenario you add a second needle if it's bothering you.
