Teacherthreads 🧵 MY WHY FOR MY WORK I grew up in extreme poverty, the youngest of 7 children. We lived in NW Indiana, surrounded by suburbs that had been formed by white flight and filled with people who supported white supremacy, both passively and actively.
We were dirt-poor, but my parents supported education as a way out. We went to the library each week for years & watched educational programs on PBS. My mother bought a set of encyclopedias (remember those?) so we could look up things.1/4
