I don't understand Malaysian Chinese who only knows how to speak Mandarin and type in Chinese. If you can't at least be bilingual, then you are the very definition of Malaysia's failed education system.

I’m Japanese and living in KL, and my husband is Malaysian Chinese who speak six languages fluently depending on the person races. My first language is of course Japanese, and I can also speak English with no problems. I speak to hundreds of Malaysians every day for work, but there are a certain number of them who can't speak English and can only speak Malay or Chinese. As I am in Malaysia, I would like to study Malay rather than Chinese.. difficult of living without malay🥹🥹

As a chinese myself, yea I agreed. Why would some Chinese dont even know Malay language? It’s considered very easy and lots of exposure all around. Well, one of a way i learnt my Malay is not really via class or homework, but TV. Watching hk drama growing up, the subtitles were amazing, it taught me so much words and in no time i can write karangan the best in class🤣. I told my classmates, look at the subtitles, line by line, it helps, 200% faster than learning from textbook word by word.

My problem is I failed mandarin in UPSR. As a Chinese student studied in SJK(C), I considered as failure in the system too as I scored in Malay and English. I even studied BM at STPM, I feel sad for the youngster nowdays who don’t know how to speak and write in national language. It’s shameful as those Bangladeshi can speak fluent Malay after being here for just few years

To be honest, for elderly who are more than 70 who can’t speak bahasa, i understand But youngsters, i dun understand why you cant even communicate in bahasa We dint ask to talk in pantun, puisi or even peribahasa Dun be ignorance! I admit i’m not good in language but i still communicate in bahasa, english and mandarin This is the advantage of being a Malaysian! Multilingual! Make use of it!!

Not sure if you realized there are a huge population of Canadians who only speak French and Americans who only speak Spanish. There are a huge bunch of Chinese who only speak their own dialects or Tibetan or Uighur without knowing Mandarin. A successful government allows its people to be able to live comfortably under their choice of culture .

True, everyone were raised in the same system so let’s not blame the system when the attitude is the only problem here.
