Who commits sexual abuse of a child? In one study, 82% of the cases involved a heterosexual partner of a close relative of the child. Of the remainder, many are authority figures outside the home – such as a church leader. Over 4,000 Catholic priests were accused of committing acts over a 52 year period and 400 Southern Baptist leaders were accused of acts over a 20 year period. The problem is not gays or drag queens. Overwhelmingly, it is a heterosexual person that the child’s family trusts.
