True! I say something similar: "your position is not nearly as important as your direction". Position I mean "status/reputation". A big person/company can be overtaken by a smaller one. Position can be ones current state of knowledge also. An expert can be overtaken by a very determined novice. My inspiration for this idea was vectors in math.
