Islam is a religion of implementation and oral transmission, books are secondary to spending time with the scholars and absorbing their behaviour. Allah spoke the Qur'an in Arabic, thus can only be studied in that form. The Prophet pbuh spoke in Arabic, thus his narrations are learnt in that form. The religion was lost by the masses when Arabic was lost by them.
