When i was in hs we would dumb down our vocab cus we didn't want stuff to look plagiarized. That was 5ish years ago. I'm sure most students rn who've read a book past their required stuff have a far larger vocab than you think. I'm assuming you're a teacher n I'm not tryna explain ur job to u. I'm not a teacher. Just saying that students engage with their teachers n school work in such a way where u can't make blanket statements about 99.9% of em not knowing a (pretty common) word like "titular"
