yes japan is relatively safe compared to a lot of the US but i left my hotel at 2:00pm yesterday and by 2:10 was followed TWICE by persistent and aggressive local men…. (no amount of “NO” or “go away” or “no japanese” got them to go away - i had to cross the street and run away) the first person trailed next to me on a bike on the sidewalk after making a u-turn (they’d passed me going the opposite direction) the second person wouldn’t stop trying to force me to go drinking with them
