I had to Google what Chakoi was. Turns out, that’s the BM name for it but I grew up calling it You Char Kway or Pak Tongko. My American stepfather, on the other hand dubbed it Chinese Donut, a name that’s stuck with the kids ever since. That said, I’m unapologetically team porridge when it comes to eating said deep fried goodness. There’s just something about that combo — absolute perfection!
