“You’re not REALLY Puerto Rican” is a sentiment I’m familiar with having grown up in the burbs with one Puerto Rican parent. So the message Bad Bunny’s album sends about the importance of legacy and roots and celebrating our culture across the diaspora is so validating. After all, regardless of where we lived or who she married, my mom still instilled her Boricua pride in me. And I hope I can do the same with my future children, too. 🇵🇷

I spent some summers in PR but grew up culturally Puerto Rican from the food to the music, yelling and customs lol but I was made to feel less Puerto Rican because Spanish isn’t my first language and I realize that’s total BS. I am first generation. And nothing can take away my identity. As I grow older my Spanish has improved and as long as I continue my culture and history and learn it and pass it on, I’ve done my duty
