My first trip to New York, around 1985. I leave SJC about 10AM Sunday morning. I have a connecting flight in ATL. We land in ATL and they announce that we will be on the ground for 45 minutes, while passengers deplane and next passengers board. If you’re continuing to NY, stay on the plane. I stay. An hour passes, nobody is boarding. They make an announcement that weather in NY is bad, so they are holding in ATL. Boarding in 30, stay in my seat. 30 minutes, nothing…

Plane is full. “We’re going to sit here for 30 minutes, while weather clears in NY”… “we’re going to get in line for takeoff, there’s about 30 planes ahead of us.” We arrive over NY… the plane starts turning lefts continuously… 30 minutes later, “we’re running low on fuel, we’re going to land in DC and refuel.” Landed in DC… refueled and waited 90 minutes. Took off and circled NY for another hour. Finally landed at midnight at LaGuardia.
