If you don't read the prologue, you ARE missing part of the story as the author intended it. If you didn't read the prologue, you didn't finish the book. No argument is valid. They didn't call it "Chapter 1" for reasons they don't HAVE to share with you. It's their artistic choice. That early in the book you can't know if it's important, do you're making an arbitrary, lazy decision. What's that? Is it also your choice not to read the prologue? Sure, but it makes you look entitled and lazy.
