Today I sat down in a seat at the near my gate at the airport before boarding. I was seated there for a minute when a woman approached me and said, "I was saving that seat, so I am sorry but you will have to move." Under normal circumstances, this is a perfectly reasonable and banal request. But because I just lost my home, belongings and community in the fires, this small incident almost broke me. It felt like a personal blow, but there was nothing personal about it. palisadesfire
