I have beef with word-of-the-year. For me, a year is far too long and full of different seasons to be summarised by one word. I've set them quite a few years, and every time I've got to the end of the year and thought "Yeah, it was (that word) AND....." So this year I'm not choosing a word of the year. I'm choosing a word for each quarter.
