Sendai: Has all of the city things I want but without any of the crowds Local ski hill nearby 30 minute drive, can hike there in the summer Beach is close Public transportation good, but also fun to have a car to explore the wider Tohoku region 1 hour shinkansen to Tokyo Basically no tourists come here (and I kind of love that, people don't assume I'm a tourist) Top notch air here too!
