The fact that Japan’s sweetheart, Nakai Masahiro of SMAP, can allegedly (with the complicity of Fuji TV executives) do something so horrific to a young woman that she left her job as TV announcer and was hospitalised with PTSD, pay her ¥90,000,000 in hush money (a massive sum in Japan) and still have it glossed over by news outlets and referred to as 「女性問題」/’female trouble’ shows Japan still has a long way to go.
