First, off, TikTok is not banned in China.
In fact before TikTok, ByteDance created Douyin.
It became extremely popular.
ByteDance then created TikTok, based on Douyin as an international product.
There are differences, between the two, but they are minor.
The significant difference is TikTok is built and operated by a subsidiary based in Singapore, with a Singaporean CEO, and completely different data centres.
All US user data is maintained on servers operated by Oracle in the U.S.
