fresh velvet shanks ~ Flammulina velutipes~ Cap: orange/brown caramel colour, shiny & sticky unless very dry. Gills: white to a pale yellow/cream Stipe: pale yellow, light brown at bottom when young, whole thing turning dark brown/black with age. Velvet texture, fairly tough. Grows in clusters particularly on elm but also on other deciduous trees. Lookalikes: Funeral bell ☠️, rustgills, sheathed woodtuft and also sulphur tufts!!
