It hurt when I got it and I cramped like my worst period cramps for about 3 days (heating pad + nsaid saviors) but it was unnotable otherwise. No bleeding, no weird discharge, nothing. Going on year 3 with my mirena and have had absolutely no issues with it. Tbh the worst part was her measuring my uterus and that was really quick. If you can get better pain management (I took 400mg ibuprofen, not enough) should be no problem.

Thank you to everyone sharing their stories - I really appreciate it! Here is my plan of action based on all the responses: - ask to see if they do an ultrasound prior to insertion to assess the uterus for shape/width to see if it’ll be a good fit (literally, lol) - lidocaine! Either applied or as a shot - cervical block for more pain mgmt - potentially an IV drip for pain mgmt - do on period to have cervix naturally minimally dilated - have misoprostol for additional cervical softening

It’s only 99% effective. I have two kids a year apart cause of a fail. It all worked out for us though!
