When I bought my home 27 years ago, we redid all the hardwood floors before moving in. Sitting on the front steps waiting on the stain to dry, I saw an old couple walking slowly down the block. They stopped at my gate and introduced themselves as my mid-block neighbors. She peered into the house, smiled, and said, “you got the color just right on the living room floor.” I asked what she meant and she said, “I danced on that floor on New Years 1954, and it was that exact color brown.” 1/2
