Many rent assistance programs are predicated on already having received an eviction notice, or fitting a certain demographic; senior, single mother, etc. Folks asking for help often are told they don’t qualify- after they have jumped all the hoops and spent *hours* on hold. It’s hard to understand what a shit show it is unless/until you need to ask.
