Yes, of course - my parents drilled that into me as a child. That went along with opening doors for women, and then walking upstairs right behind a woman, or just in front when walking down ( they could catch their feet in a long dress, or trip on high heels). My father had diplomatic status, so my mother entertained often in the evening - even in East & West Africa, i became used to black tie and a tux, despite the heat and humidity, especially for luncheons.
