Scale AI’s CEO says DeepSeek is either the top performing AI model or on par with the best from American companies. It costs $6M to train DeepSeek v3 which is 10x-100x less than it took to train the top models from OpenAI and big tech models. And given the chip bans, it’s not even trained on the latest chips. Plus, it’s Open Source. This is a paradigm shift and China just leapt ahead in the AI race. Spending $500B on AI datacenters via Project Stargate seems like going in the wrong direction.
