Here's my 'things I learned' list from my first race back in 2007. It was a 5-loop 50-miler:
1. Upgrade underwear
2. Look into trail shoes
3. Needed Shorts. NO capris
4. Oatmeal fine but took too long to eat
(maybe gels??)
5. Chaffing!! Fix it
6. Cotton hat not the best
7. Ankle socks bad idea
8. Walk steep climbs sooner
9. NEVER eat marshmallows
10. Got too hot—layers??
11. Carry toilet paper
