For small music creators, is it worth dealing with Spotify at all? Or should we stay old fashioned and sell thumb drives and patreon downloads?

It’s different for all music professionals but I’d say yes it is. I don’t even use Spotify for streaming purposes I mainly use it to pitch music to people.

I've had a few people recently trying to convince me not to release my album there as independent artists get nothing from it. I did have an EP there for a few years on an independent label but never received any money from plays. Bandcamp is a great way to support artists, more transparent and the artists are supported. Now I do use Spotify as I discovered lots of music there which I then had to search for where to buy their work. Spotify doesn't even have a link to that in the platform.
