My most recent flight was late, delayed for about an hour at the gate and aside from being told they were waiting for "engineering" I wasn't sure what was happening. I kindly went to the front and told the flight attendant that I was not feeling this flight and got off. The fact that they let me off when all the passengers were seated and we were at the gate waiting for clearance and they tells me all I need to know.
