Overseas Chinese communities have been overseas for generations and do not necessarily have ties to the country China. They may still practice Chinese customs and speak their mother tongues, often with adaptations and localisations for the country which they are based in. Examples of countries with overseas Chinese communities with their own distinct cultures are Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia - and many more that I’m not aware of yet.
