I believe the $1.3B border security deal had already been negotiated in December 2024 before Trump took office. I know that Canada does not seek nor benefit from a trade war with its closest trading partner. Trump did this to feed his base supporters and his shallow, cowardice ego. However, this is a positive step forward, allowing for further negotiations.
