This is William "Bill" Overstreet Jr. During WWII, he was a member of the legendary 357th Fighter Group. He mostly flew bomber escort missions into Germany, which is why he named his P-51 Mustang the “Berlin Express".
One day in Spring 1944, he was escorting some bombers when they were engaged by German Bf-109s. Although Bill had been told to avoid Paris (one of the few European cities NOT destroyed by war), neither he nor the German pilot he engaged would blink.
