I was raised in a community my first twelve years that was pretty white European. When we moved south, the world began to expand and I made friends with Black and Brown and Asian people. Then we moved to Maryland. At our church, my mom developed friendships, deep and beautiful and mutually supportive friendships with an array of skin tones. And my high school was 53% white.
