On my flight from Mumbai to New York via Abu Dhabi, I paid extra and booked my window seats. At Abu Dhabi, as soon as I settled in for a 14 hr flight, the family seated next to me: ‘we have a baby, will you switch with our daughter-in-law?’. Of course since they have a baby, I say sure where is her seat. They point to an aisle seat a few rows behind. ‘Sorry. Would have switched if it was a window’. The said family goes on requesting. Then promptly complain to

The flight attendant that ‘this passenger is not agreeing to switch’. Attendant to me ‘ma’am they have a young child. Could you consider this switch?’ I’m honestly annoyed. If you knew you’re travelling with a young child, pay for your seats. Why are you expecting me to give up a seat I paid for? When I travelled with my kids, I planned ahead and paid for our seats to be together. Honestly this entitled attitude needs to stop!

Their lack of planning is not your problem. I would agree to switch if they pay me or upgrade me to a better seat. If not, you will see your family member at the destination

Flight recently delayed due to people wanting to sit next to family … either pay for it (yes it’s annoying but it’s what I do to sit next to my family) or get what you are given 🤯

After years of long haul flights and booking window seats I decided to go for aisle seats. If I’m trapped in a window seat and want to get up to walk around or use the bathroom, I have to move my husband who’s probably asleep and move the poor soul on the aisle seat who’s probably asleep. So after being embarrassed so many times I decided I was better off on an aisle seat. But that’s my preference

Was on a trip to Panama and had to fly via Spain with 2 small kids (that flight was later shown in a TV doc about scary flights). Had to overnight it Spain and on check in discovered that the UK check in had not assigned us seats. Each of us in a middle seat different rows, different parts of the plane. No one would switch. I almost got to the point of saying fine - good luck looking after my 4&6 year old for the next 12 hours before someone on the other side of the plane switched.

Funny story. Happened on a flight to Abu Dhabi from Chicago. My wife and I were traveling with our kids who were toddlers then. We booked 3 seats of middle row but couldn’t get the 4th seat so were hoping and praying whoever had the 4th seat would be kind enough to swap. But to our surprise, the row was pre-occupied with a couple who we could see giggling and playful as we walked towards the seats. As soon as they saw us, a look of sadness dawned on them. Almost as if on cue. 1/n
