I’ve just confronted someone instrumental in my childhood for supporting Trump. He’s the father of a dear friend. I risk losing one of the few “positive” connections to my childhood that remained. I need genuinely good community more than I need to silently preserve a relationship with someone who supports a person as objectively unethical as Trump. I couldn’t do it anymore. There’s more important things than clinging to tainted memories of what I should have had. Painful, but necessary.
