Doing mental maths with my students made me realise it wasn’t just about the calculations, it was the vocab that became the real challenge. Watching them freeze up in confusion in classroom sometimes. Example in multiplication, it’s not just “multiply” or “times” — they also need to recognise words like “lots of,” “groups of,” “double,” “triple,” and “product.” The same goes for other operations, different terms can completely throw them off! 🥲
